You should be very, very thankful that you grew up in such a lovely kingdom as the united kingdom. It’s a wonderful place.

Okay, I can only talk from my limited perspective as a German.

More than anything I pity the British. I visited London some ten years ago, and back then I had the feeling of walking though the ruins of a dead empire. The British were on top of the world for several centuries, by trickery and violence, and now they are not anymore. They are not an Empire anymore and it seems like that a large part of the English do not want to realize this fact. They act like they still own the world, like they are special and the rules do not apply to them, like they are better than the rest of the world. This delusional hubris lead to Brexit.

And now they are surprised that the planet doesn´t bow to the might of Britain. As it is, the UK is facing economic and political collapse. I am almost certain that in 10 years Scotland will have left the Union and Northern Ireland will have united with the Republic of Ireland. The supermarkets are empty, there are food shortages, shortages in the labour force, a gouverment that is almost comicaly incompetent. Brexit is a desaster. A part of me would like to think that this is karma for the centuries of misery the British Empire brought to the world, but that would be unfair to the millions of decent british people that have been dragged into this mess by their uneducated, jingoistic compatriots.

I once read a quote: The UK won the war, but lost the peace, while Germany lost the war but won the peace. This is true more now than at any other point in the last 76 years.
